About Us

Introduction

Borisu Sesang Foundation

The name Borisu Sesang is derived from Korean words — "Borisu" which means "Peepal Tree" and "Sesang" which means "World". As you might know, the Peepal Tree produces oxygen 24×7 to help keep our environment clean, playing a very important role in our life. In the same way, our NGO works for the benefit of poor and underprivileged students to educate them for their bright future.

Borisu = Peepal Tree

The Peepal Tree gives oxygen 24×7 — nourishing life around it.

Sesang = World

Our work spreads like oxygen — reaching every corner of the world that needs it.

Background

How It All Began

A natural disaster that ignited a lifelong mission.

May 2015
The Nepal Earthquake

The journey started in May 2015 when a major earthquake struck Nepal with its epicentre at Taple Village, near Pokhara District, Nepal. While Nepal received monetary help from all over the world, the epicentre Taple Village was totally ignored — all roads from Kathmandu were destroyed. The only way to reach Taple Village was through India via the Sonauli Border.

The Journey
A 2-Day Mission

With contributions from friends and family, we collected a large amount of food items in Delhi. But no one was ready to transport those items to Taple Village. So, we decided to use our own tourist coach, filled every seat with food materials, and headed for the India-Nepal Sonauli Border — a journey of almost 30 hours.

At the border, our tourist coach was too large for the mountain roads. We hired local trucks at higher rates — another 10 hours of travel. Then the trucks could not proceed on the small village roads. We hired small vans for a further 4 hours until we finally reached Taple Village after a 2-day journey.

First to Arrive
First Relief Responders

Every building in Taple Village was shattered. We are proud to say that we were the first to reach there with all the immediately required things — mineral water, ready-to-eat food, tents, rice, biscuits and more. We distributed all the necessary items among the villagers.

We forgot our tired journey the moment we saw the smiles of the children. Talking with them, we found that all the school buildings were badly destroyed and they wished to continue their studies in temporary arrangements. We returned with a promise to build them a temporary sheltered school very soon.

3 Days
Seven Schools in Three Days

After a few days, we revisited Taple Village with some Korean friends. We mobilised all the villagers to join hands and construct the temporary sheltered school. We are proud to announce that within just three days, we constructed seven temporary sheltered schools in the nearby villages of Taple.

Formation of NGO

Borisu Sesang Foundation

The inspiration came from our grandmother, Late Kamla Devi Sinha. She had opened a free school to teach nearby kids in our hometown. Whenever we visited, she always told us —

"Viddya Daanam Maha Daanam"

— which means "Teaching is the biggest donation in the world. Knowledge would never finish. The more you share, the more you get."

After building temporary schools in Nepal, those schools were funded and supported by other NGOs from all over the world. We decided to do something similar in India.

While returning from Nepal, we stayed overnight at Sravasti (the place where Lord Buddha spent his 24 rainy seasons and taught several sermons) in Uttar Pradesh. As a tour operator, we had regularly visited this historical place with our tourists. We found that Sravasti is a place where most villagers live below the poverty line.

Though Shravasti has several government and private schools, underprivileged children were far behind city students due to lack of quality education, money, and infrastructure — and even parents had no awareness of the importance of education.

So, we decided to start an NGO to help underprivileged children. Thus, we founded Borisu Sesang Foundation in May 2016 and chose Shravasti, Uttar Pradesh to start a free school.

Fortunately, we met a Korean monk — Dae In Monk — at Shravasti, who offered to lease out their building for the school. Thus we established a Primary with Upper Primary School (up to Class 8), named Bogwang Academy, at Shravasti in 2016.
